The Prince George Blizzard Speed Skating Club is a recreational and competitive speed skating club that offers learn to skate programs for all ages and abilities. From September to March, the Blizzard program offers short track (inside a hockey rink) and long track (a 400 meter oval) practices and competitions to skaters aged four to adult. Our certified coaches promote the development of skating fundamentals and athlete development in accordance to the Long Term Participant and Athlete Development Plan. All Blizzard members belong to the BC Speed Skating Association and Speed Skating Canada. Remember to skate fast and turn left!
September 20, 2016 - Ice times for the first half of the season are finalized and can be found on the calendar.
The Active Start/FUNdamental Group is the first to carve up the ice from 5:45 pm - 6:30 pm on September 27, 2016. Parents, please remember to arrive early to help put mats on the ice and ensure that your skater's equipment is on and ready to go. Many hands make light work!
The Novice/Intermediate Group is on the ice on September 27 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Coach Taryn and Coach Kari would like to meet at 5:45pm in changeroom #3 to do a quick meet and greet and off ice warm up.
The Advanced Group practice runs from 7:45 pm to 9:00 pm. Again, please remember to arrive 45 - 60 minutes early so that you can complete a proper warm up prior to getting on the ice. Parents, please remember that the mats come off the ice after this practice and get put on the carts and stored away.
Finally, the Masters group hits the ice bright and early Saturday morning October 01, 2016 at 8:00am. This is a later start than usual, so enjoy the extra minutes of sleep! You should arrive early to put the mats on the ice.
As always, all skaters on the ice are required to wear their personal protective equipment, including glasses, helmet, neck guard, cut proof gloves (leather works fine), knee pads, shin guards, and Kevlar ankle protection. Check with your coach if you are unsure of what you need prior to practice. The club has some of these items available for sale, if need be.
See you on the 27th! #skatefastandturnleft!

October 25, 2015 - The number one concern in sport is injury prevention. In sports such as speed skating, hockey, football, and rugby, where impact occurs, concussion recognition and prevention are a key part of the equation. To this end, BCSSA has provided to clubs a Pocket Concussion Recognition Tool. Feel free to make a copy and keep it handy for any activites that you or your family might be involved in. Feel free to pass it on. Feel free to talk to your coach if you have any questions.
September 16, 2014 - The PG Blizzard received some great press about our upcoming season from CKPG TV. Check it out here.
